The difference between a regular transformer and a center-tap transformer is that a center-tap transformer allows you to tap into half of the voltage.
In our example, both step-down transformers have a turn ratio of 10:1, meaning the output voltage will be 10 times smaller than the input voltage.
1st Example:
Input voltage = 340VAC = 240Vrms
Output voltage = 24Vrms
2nd Example:
Input voltage = 340VAC = 240Vrms
Output voltage = 24Vrms
Center-tap voltage = 12Vrms
The center tap transformer allows us to tap into half of 24V which is 12V.
