This circuit shows the discharge of a capacitor from 5V when disconnected from a battery to ground. The voltage drops at the same rate it charges. At the same time, the current also drops from its maximum rate (in this case 500micro amps) but the charge flows in the reverse direction and so the chart gives the progressive numeric results as negative values. At 5 time constants, we observe a drop in current to as little as 3.2 micro amps from initial 500. This is written as -3.2 micro amps due to the revesing of the direction of charge as mentioned above.
