Half wave rectifier uses the same principle as PN junction diode. In a half-wave rectifier circuit, the load resistance is connected in series with the PN junction diode. Alternating current is the input of the half-wave rectifier. A rectifier is a circuit that converts the Alternating Current (AC) input power into a Direct Current (DC) output power. Then this type of circuit is called a “half-wave” rectifier because it passes only half of the incoming AC power supply. The maximum efficiency of a half-wave rectifier is about 40.5%. The rectifier is a device that is capable of converting an alternating current into a unidirectional or pulsating form of direct current. The process of conversion of alternating currents into direct currents is known as "rectification". AC power cannot be stored but DC power can be stored. In order to store electrical energy alternating current is converted to direct current like in Inverters, batteries, etc Digital devices require a direct current to work.
