Circuit Description

Graph image for Cockcroft-Walton Multiplier 3 Stage

Circuit Graph

3 stage voltage multiplier 170Vac to 1000Vdc This circuit takes AC voltage and converts it into a higher DC voltage. Notice that this circuit is a combination of a Clamper and Peak Detector Circuit. For the 1st stage the output voltage is Vout = 2 * Vpeak For stages greater than or equal to 2 add on the 1st stage voltage Example: Vin = 120Vrms Vpeak = 120 / 0.707 = 169.7 Vac Vout1 = 169.7 * 2 = 339.4 Vdc Vout2 = 339.4 + 339.4 = 678.8 Vdc Vout3 = 678.8 + 339.4 = 1018.2 Vdc
