Capacitor

A capacitor stores electrical energy in an electrostatic field. 

A capacitor's ability to store energy is measured by its capacitance, C, which is measured in farads. 

Capacitors are widely used to filter or remove AC signals from a variety of circuits. Also, because capacitors take a predictable time to charge and discharge, they can be used in a variety of time-delay circuits.
